Brisbane Roar kept themselves in Competition

Brisbane Roar kept themselves in contention for the A-league title after yet another comeback victory during this weekend.

The 2-1 win over Newcastle Jets keeps the team one point ahead of Adelaide United. Manager John Aloisi was extremely happy with the resilience and the character shown by his players. Following a goalless first half, Newcastle opened the scoring through a penalty by Leonardo. Brisbane Roar received a major break in the game when Boogaard was sent off with a straight red card in the 65th minute. The penalty that he conceded was then converted by Henrique Silva two minutes later.

From then on, Brisbane started dominating the game and it was not long before they took the lead through Broich. The home team then held off for yet another three points that puts them closer towards the title. This victory also means that Brisbane will not be finishing lower than fourth in the table this season. Hence, they will be guaranteed a major semi-final in front of their supporters or a place in the elimination final. Aloisi says that the character of the players came to prominence, as they never seemed to give up even when the odds were against them.
